The VFV has completed the construction of its Community Center and activities and projects have initially been conducted for the community already. The first major project under the Center was the renovation of the community basketball court. With the help of the sponsor, International Education of Studies, and the people in the community, this project has been realized in a week's time. The court was painted and boards and rings were put up. The court also serves as the playground of the children and youth alike. Game equipment like badminton sets, volleyballs, chess sets, hula-hoops and jumping ropes are available at the center for the people to use.

Activities have also been organized inside the center. Arts classes, math and English tutorials, film showing of g-rated films have been started. These activities are for the children in the neighborhood. Classes for adults were likewise organized. Every Thursday, self-empowerment sessions are being conducted by the Social Welfare Office and one of the volunteers from Canada. These sessions are for mothers of the children who are beneficiaries of the Child Sponsorship Program of VFV. Nutrition classes are also open for the whole community. These classes are headed by one of the international volunteers, Kelly Whitty, and the Nutrition Office.

Volunteer for the Visayans is a not for profit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of the local residents. There are so many ways in which you can help make this goal possible including volunteering (link) at our center or sponsoring a project through donation of financial support or goods.

Despite the initial success of the center's operation, it still needs the help of sponsors and volunteers. The center is still looking forward into having a mini-library reading center but with the limited budget, the organization is looking for sponsors who can help in realizing this goal. More g-rated films are also lacking. Any donations of books, toys, reading, educational and crafts materials and computers will be greatly appreciated.

We are also open for anyone who would like to volunteer their time organizing activities such as arts classes, handicraft workshops, skills training, gender and health issue classes and self-empowerment sessions for the community.

Renovation of the Community Basketball Court
The basketball court is located right in front of the community center. At present, it doesn’t have backboards, requires paving and needs painting. We are looking into renovating the court so that the residents can enjoy the facility.

Media Room for Free Viewing of G-Rated Movies
This media room will consist of a TV and a DVD player and every Friday and Saturday there will be free viewing of G-rated movies. You can sponsor this media center.

Mini-Library Reading Center
We also accept donation of books and other reading materials, which will be placed in our mini-library/reading center.

Distribution Center For Goods and Services

Volunteer your Time!
Aside from our regular volunteer placements, you can also volunteer in our community center and conduct skills trainings, cooking classes, handicrafts, art workshops, reading/ story-telling to children and other activities that you are good at and can help the local residents.
